How to create choreography

  1. Think about what style of dance you prefer. Then choose the music to match! (e.g. ballet would be more classical music, hip hop would be more r'n'b style music.)
  2. Once you've picked the music, if it's music to go along with the song then find the lyrics, if it's just music then try and find the piano music (or the music for some other instrument, although you don't need to do this it's just easier if you do).
  3. If you have lyrics then write down on a piece of paper one line (or two lines if the song moves fast from one line to the other). If you have the music then do the same but with a line of notes.
  4. Listen to the song/sing or hum it to yourself one or two lines at a time. Watch videos (youtube!) of people dancing in the style you want, take inspiration from that don't steal their moves and get inspiration from many different videos to create your own choreography. Write underneath each line the moves you have to do (I think you can write all mathematical etc. but I prefer just writing, for example: stomp with right then left foot...) and every couple of lines practice from the beginning with the music.
This may take a while but it'll be worth it and practice practice practice!
