The Two Main Makeup Looks

So I figure that there's two main makeup looks and lots more that spiral off from those. So I'm going to tell you how to get them!

Look 1:
Pale and Striking - this can mean heavy black makeup, or it can just mean natural makeup.
I usually just wear natural makeup so this is how you go pale and striking (it kind of helps if your pale already like me!):
Apply concealer just on dark under-eye circles is you need it then apply black mascara to your lashes so they'll stand out. Red lips will make you even more striking but just for every-day you might prefer just a tinted lipgloss or nothing.
That's it! If you want to go heavy black makeup just add more eyeliner etc. to your eyes or wherever and leave your skin pale and natural!

Look 2:
Bold and Beautiful - this can mean natural makeup but with that rosy-cheeked glowing look, or loads of colourful makeup!
For the natural makeup (it helps if you're tanned for this one!:D) just add blusher to the pale and striking natural makeup above and if you want foundation and/or bronzer. For a bolder look add colourful eyeshadows, eyeliner, lipstick - just experiment!

Either makeup look will make you look beautiful, even though I'm sure you already are! You can make either one your own by just changing the colours to what you prefer or whatever you want!
I prefer pale and striking because it's just, me - I like looking bold and beautiful and all tanned (due to foundation, I'm really not tanned!) but it just doesn't feel like me. So experiment with makeup to come up with the look that looks like you! Whether that's no makeup or loads of makeup!

Makeup Tips

How I apply makeup in the mornings and tips on doing so:
  • Before applying makeup go through your daily skincare routine first - for how to create one look here: Daily Skincare Routine
  • First I apply concealer - just on the bags under my eyes, try not to apply it on spots unless you're going out otherwise the spots will take longer to disappear. Tips for applying concealer: Dab a bit of concealer on your finger then rub it together with the finger on the other hand, then dab concealer under your eyes or on spots. Gently dabbing the place rather than rubbing in.
  • Then I apply mascara - Tips for applying mascara: 1. Apply your usual mascara then put waterproof mascara over the top, to keep it from smudging - you don't want to get stuck in a rainstorm with non-waterproof mascara! 2. When applying mascara wipe the brush against the tube of mascara to get off clumps. 3. Only wear waterproof mascara on bottom eyelashes so it shouldn't smudge.
  • Next is lip-salve, if you wear lipgloss put on lip-salve/lipbalm first then lipgloss.

I know I might not wear as much makeup as some of you but the less makeup you wear the less likely you are to get spots!

Tips on avoiding under-eye mascara smudges...

Here's how to avoid getting smudged mascara under your eyes, and just-in-case tips for removing them!

  • Experiment with different mascara's - some will work for you without smudging, some won't.
  • Wear waterproof mascara, some will smudge but I find most won't.
  • Try not wearing mascara on your bottom lashes.
  • Don't put moisturiser under your eyes in the morning - just at night. (Eye moisturiser remember, not just normal moisturiser)
  • Apply primer before your mascara.
  • When applying mascara wait for it to dry before leaving.
  • Don't rub your eyes.
Just in case your mascara still smudges here's tips on removing the evidence quickly:

  • Carry a small pot of eye moisturiser around with you, apply that to your under-eyes and rub in.
  • If you don't have any moisturiser then use makeup wipes (obviously).
  • If you can't do either of the above apply concealer over the smudge.

How To: High School Survival Kit For Girls

First, get a small bag - I use a medium-sized makeup bag which I can just fit in my school bag.
All of the things I list below you'll want to get mini versions of to save space. (And just FYI I do know some schools don't allow some of this stuff (makeup, nail varnish etc.) my school doesn't but why are rules there if not to be broken?)

  1. Makeup - I only usually bring mascara, lipbalm (essential!) and lipgloss and concealer.
  2. Nail Varnish - I bring clear, light pink and white from my french manicure set. You only want to wear paler colours if nail varnish isn't allowed so you don't have to take it off.
  3. Hand lotion - Don't you hate it when you're hands are really dry?
  4. Small hairbrush with hair bobbles - ESSENTIAL!
  5. Hair grips - I only tend to bring a few slides.
  6. Tampons/Pads - bring a couple for emergency's we all have those times! You may also want to bring a spare pair of knickers for those accidents!
  7. House Key - If you have one, don't lose it! Also your locker key if you want.
  8. Spare Change - A few pounds will do for EMERGENCYS ONLY!
  9. A Mirror - Your phone has a limit to how well you can see yourself.
  10. Mobile Phone - But I usually keep it in my pocket.
  11. Nail file - I just got an emery board, polisher, buffer etc. in one from savers.
  12. Makeup Wipes - Even if you use makeup remover cream etc. wipes are always useful! (They're pretty good at getting toothpaste off your jumper!)
  13. Tissues - This is an obvious one but I don't have any little packets so don't carry these around! :S
  14. Gum/Mints - To keep your mouth fresh and nice-smelling after meals!
